Beri-Nut… Many will wonder, what kind of nut this is, some might even say they&#8217;ve never seen or tasted it… hahaha…it is not what you think. Beri-Nut is an application, meant to collect, consolidate and follow up under 5 malnourished children.



 The name Beri, is from its founder Bruna Njeba Beri, a medical school graduate in pharmacy, who saw the need to create this app after working with Action Against Hunger, under the Health and Nutrition Department. Due to the difficulties they faced in obtaining under 5 nutrition Data in Cameroon, Bruna Njeba Beri was pushed to create the app Beri-Nut on February 12, 2021.

 However, she and her team, have not been able to provide their services to anyone nor had any remuneration because the application has not yet been tested. Once testing is done, the application will be made accessible to the public. Bruna says she needs investors and grants to help her cross the beta testing phase and fully launch, considering the fact, this process as well as its marketing is very costly. She adds that one major difficulty they are still facing is how to gain exposure and fully launch the application such that Organizations see their legitimacy and facilitate the testing and finally subscribe. The young pharmacist is very passionate about public health nutrition and supply chain management. She carries out activities in these two domains at the Ngaoundere Urban Health District office on a daily basis.



 When asked where she sees Beri-Nut in five years from now, she said and I quote, &#8220;I see Beri-Nut managing nutrition data for other organizations, facilitating and reducing the malnutrition rates in all crisis zones all over Cameroon&#8221; end of quote. Have you traveled by bus lately? if yes, you must have discovered the new form of advertising…BUSPUB MEDIA. This is the idea of 28year old Maxime Tsague, a Mining Engineer, who graduated from The Cameroon Christian University Institute, Bali in 2014.



 The idea of this startup, BUSPUB MEDIA, came about when he discovered that platforms for advertisement like billboards, TV, radio, journals, etc, hardly reach the audience because people hardly take time to read or listen and most of those who do, do not understand the message. With the increasing desire for companies and business owners to market their goods and services effectively, the idea to create BUSPUB MEDIA was birth on the 1st of August 2020.



 According to Maxime Tsague, 70% of interurban movements are done through buses. The Yaounde &#8211; Douala highway accounts for 80% of such movements, mostly for economic purposes. A great opportunity to advertise to passengers, who spend at least 5hrs in these buses doing almost nothing. Without any form of harassment or disturbance, the passengers are able to read through the advert over and over, and by so doing discovering the product or service being advertised, thereby creating more awareness. At the end of the month, the advert reaches close to 25000 people, who according to Maxime Tsague, have undergone what he calls &#8220;The Message Transfer Process&#8221; and a good number of them end up patronizing them.

BUSPUB, MAKING THE WAVES

Valuing the solar energy potential of the environment, while integrating sustainable development, technology transfer, and integration into the society, promoting young and green jobs, while contributing to the fight against global warming, with added value to the national economy is 25 years old, Triumphant Tchulang&#8217;s idea, founder and CEO of Clean Energy Services.



This ex-student of the national advanced school of engineering, of the University of Maroua, and the alumni of RLC Dakar, got inspired by the impact climate change had at the regional, national, and international levels. According to him, when he got to the Far North, it was 45 degrees hot, and because of these harsh climatic conditions and the lack of electricity, so many patients in the hospital suffered as most of them laid on the floor because of the heat, and their drugs too could not be preserved, as well as foodstuffs. 



This prompted him to start researching in 2015, on how to solve this issue. This research led to the first prototype of his invention: the refrigerator in September 2017, which could be used at the time to store vaccines. In the same year, he took part in the Startup Weekend Sahel Tour Maroua, a competition organized by Tech-Stars, where he got the prize of the best business model. 



In 2018 he continued researching and competing although he didn&#8217;t register any success. Then in 2019 he discovered an interesting way to upgrade his refrigerator and on the 3rd of October this year, Triumphant Tchulang took part in the EDF Pulse Africa Tour Cameroon competition, where he obtained the first prize, thanks to the invention of the Solar photovoltaic refrigerator, made from local materials and equipped with a sensor, using only solar thermal energy, which transforms the heat of the sun into cold through absorption. This refrigerator can be used to preserve not only vaccines, but also drugs, and other things. 



Triumphant Tchulang will be representing Cameroon in Paris, on the 21st of November 2019, at the final of the EDF, Pulse Africa Prize, which rewards entrepreneurial innovation in the field of innovative energy solutions. Worthy of note is the fact that Triumphant Tchulang and a group of other young innovators are the authors of the first electric vehicle made in Cameroon, which they presented during the international youth fair at the Ministry of Youth Affairs in 2017. 



These successes, however, didn&#8217;t come without Triumphant encountering difficulties along the way. According to him, there is a serious problem of finance, limited technology, and follow-up. He calls on youths who want to start up any business in the future, to turn every problem into an opportunity, persevere, and not give up no matter how many times they fail, and most importantly embrace teamwork.

The Solar Powered Refrigerator.

Everybody can become a successful entrepreneur, but it all depends on what he or she is ready to do to achieve their goal. Today, we will be talking about a young Cameroonian, whose story can drive a sense of purpose to many young Cameroonians, thereby motivating them to become successful entrepreneurs in the future. Genesis st. James Amahnui, is the C.E.O and co-founder of PRAIZ SYSTEMS, formerly Panda designs (re-branded on April 1st, 2019).



The 25 years old, software developer and brand strategist, hails from Bambili in the North West region of Cameroon. He attended CCAST Bambili and the university of Bamenda, where he studied petroleum engineering. 



Today, James basically designs systems, which people use from just anywhere, and for similar reasons, people are able to get to him from any part of the world. He runs two companies, Praiz systems which is all about software development, and Vagaly, which deals with data mining and branding, since 2017. As a start-up in Cameroon, it&#8217;s not been easy, as he says, most of his clients are out of the country because they have accepted to adopt the digital system, and its benefits, so pricing is not a problem to them, unlike in Cameroon, where the people are still resistant to technological evolution and thus, pricing is a major problem because they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that good software isn&#8217;t cheap. 



According to James, he is working on a strategy to bring Cameroonians closer to digitization as his slogan &#8220;let&#8217;s go digital&#8221; says. It is important to note that James started small and he&#8217;s growing gradually, as he says, when he started, he worked from home, but now he&#8217;s moved to his own office. When asked what his advice for the youths is, he said and I quote &#8220;Legends are not born, but rather they&#8217;re made&#8230; Just keep working, growing and learning, these are the steps to become a Legend&#8221; end of quote. Building personal relationships with clients is also an important part of James&#8217; life. He is also involved in other businesses like timber and importation. Like James, do not limit yourself to what you studied in school, be dynamic, be flexible, work hard, believe in yourself, don&#8217;t give up, and you will make it to the top. Becoming an entrepreneurship

Cleanliness they say is next to Godliness. Gildas Mbaku is a young Cameroonian entrepreneur who has chosen that path. 



After dropping out of the department of Physics at the University of Bamenda, he launched his start-up agency, M.G Clean, which is based in Yaounde and deals primarily in the cleaning of water tanks, and other surfaces depending on the contract. M.G Clean has been in existence since 2018 but was officially launched in February this year (2019), with four contract workers. 



According to Gildas, M.G clean came into being to raise capital for a major project he plans to start-up in the future, thus he hopes to find investors to support this project. The 24year old entrepreneur is from Batibo in the North West region of Cameroon. Write-up: Monie Emma

In the past, education was mostly associated with money. In order to get access to educational material, parents had to worry about paying for institutional services. Over the past few decades, technology has influenced almost everything in the world, one of them being the educational system. The invention of mobile educational applications has revolutionized the educational system thereby providing new patterns of learning and improving the educational system in the world. Our guest for today is a self-taught Android developer Felix Fomengia who is using mobile applications to enhance quality education in Cameroon. At the age of 21, Cameroonian-born Felix Fomengia, Founder and CEO of Light-Gate Solutions Inc, has successfully developed and published well over 15 mobile applications on the google play store, one of them being the innovative mobile offline application aimed at easing revision for students in Examination classes in Cameroon. Published in April 2018, Felix&#8217;s CAMEROON G.C.E GUIDE APP is a mobile application that was born out of the need to readily make available exam resources ranging from past questions to study tips for students in Cameroon. According to Felix, way back in high school, while preparing for the G.C.E examinations, he had difficulties accessing past G.C.E questions for revision, thus the inspiration to develop the CAMEROON G.C.E GUIDE APP, an app he terms his biggest project so far. Talking to Felix, he also indicated that the application was developed to assist students in the crisis-affected regions of Cameroon in better preparing for the G.C.E examinations. With well over 6000 students having had access to this application, Felix believes he is well on his way to effect positive changes in the Educational system in Cameroon as well as help more students acquire better results. In the future, Felix hopes to scale and improve his project, establish as a company and create jobs thereby employing other Cameroonians. FELIX FOMENGIA: A Self-Taught Andriod Developer

A holder of a master’s degree in Climate-Smart Agriculture, Fontoh Desmond Fontoh is the founder of Crusaders for Environment Protection and Ozone Watch (CEPOW), an organization involved in development projects in the areas of environmental conservation, environmental education, and women and youth development.



Coming from a society where the subject of environmental protection has often been trivialized, Mr. Fontoh is one young person who has taken it upon himself to protect mother nature and ensure its conservation. Over the past five years, Mr. Fontoh through his organization has been involved in several projects that have resulted in the empowerment of several youths within his community, one of these projects centered on recycling unwanted plastic waste.



In a bit to fight plastic pollution, Mr. Fontoh devised means to sort and transform plastic waste into durable and environmentally friendly plastic lumber which can be used as roofing tiles/pavements. Through this project, Mr. Fontoh and his team have been able to pick up and recycle about 25000kg of plastic waste.



Asides from working to recycle plastic, Mr. Fontoh has also been actively involved in reforestation via Plantation Tree Forest, a project that has resulted in over 5000trees planted and about 150 young people trained on forest conservation, animal welfare, tree planting, and biomonitoring.



Coming from a society where picking of used plastics on the streets has often been attributed to persons with mental disorders, Mr. Fontoh tells us one of the biggest challenges he has faced so far is &#8220;dejection&#8221; given that a lot of people do not see the need to protect mother nature. He also added that so far it has been difficult financing these projects due to lack of adequate funding.



Thus, in a bit to ensure the sustainability of his organization, plastic collected and transformed is being sold and profit realized is used to train more youths in the area of plastic transformation which intend gives these young people a source of livelihood. Also, in order to raise funds, his organization engages in other fund-raising activities such as bee farming, an activity that has been greatly affected by the anglophone crisis given that some of their beehives were burned down.



To Desmond Fontoh, everyone can actively play a role in protecting the environment and ensuring a future world free of plastic pollution. He recommends that in other for this to be successful, everyone must first have a change of mindset and adopt the 5Rs of Zero waste;

Over the years, Mr. Fontoh through his activities has been able to gain both national and international recognition. In 2018, he was selected amongst the 50 most influential Cameroonians. He was also selected amongst the top 2100 finalists for one of Africa&#8217;s biggest entrepreneurship programs- The Tony Elumelu TEF Connect UNDP Program. Mr. Fontoh has also received recognition from Seed of Change Canada and Pollination USA.



He has also been active in the fight against coronavirus as he is currently engaged with a Rapid Response to COVID-19, a project that aims at producing and distributing over 500 bottles of locally made hand sanitizers, 100 handwashing buckets, 500 face masks, and 200 ventilators.
